Sedation can be used for a variety of dental procedures including: fillings, root canals, crown preparations and extractions. You can count on us to help you feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the entire process.  Call our clinic today to learn more about all of our sedation services.
Dental Restorations
Tooth enamel is the strongest substance in your body and breaks down as you age. Over time, enamel can break down through excessive usage or dental cavities. We encourage our patients to have regular x-rays and practice preventative care so we can minimize potential problems at an early stage. Our objective is to save your teeth and maintain their function and esthetics.  At Nanoose Bay Dental Centre, we offer composite restorations, dental crowns, dental bridges, dental implants and complete or partial dentures.
Comprehensive Hygiene Program
With regularly scheduled hygiene appointments, we are able to reduce the build up of plaque and tartar on your teeth which helps prevent against dental decay and gum disease. After determining your specific needs, our highly trained dental hygienists will create a dental hygiene program tailored to you. This program typically includes: digital radiography, gum tissue evaluation (periodontal charting), scaling, root planing, polish, fluoride application, oral cancer screening and instructions on brushing and flossing techniques.
Periodontics (Gum Health)
This branch of dentistry focuses on evaluating the health of your gums and helps prevent against gingivitis and the later stage of gingivitis called periodontitis. Periodontitis is an inflammation of the gum tissues that builds over time. The bacteria in our mouth can cause inflammation of these tissues, which in turn create painful “pockets” around the roots of our teeth. Unfortunately, these “pockets” breed infection and can also become filled with plaque. At Nanoose Bay Dental Centre, we offer full mouth debridement, which is a deeper cleaning that goes beyond the gum line and also root planing which removes built-up tarter, plaque and bacteria from around the roots of your teeth and from the source of the inflammation.
Emergency Services
Here are examples of what requires emergency treatment:
  • Facial injury resulting in a broken or lost tooth
  • Severe pain that cannot be controlled with over-the-counter pain medication
  • Uncontrolled oral bleeding
  • Rapidly progressing swelling (Note: Especially swelling (cellulitis) impinging on the airway; this is a true dental emergency; you should report to a hospital right away.)
Surgery
At Nanoose Bay Dental Centre, surgery can range from simple extractions of primary (baby) teeth, to complicated wisdom tooth extractions.  Whatever your oral surgery needs, Nanoose Bay Dental Centre will ensure that you are comfortable at all times. From the moment you walk into the clinic, you’ll be entering into our calm, professional atmosphere where our skilled team will walk you through the entire process from start to finish.
Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Wisdom teeth are the last molars in your mouth and typically come in during the late teen years.  As a wisdom tooth grows, they can become impacted and cause pain, crowding, damage to neighbouring teeth and even periodontal disease.  At Nanoose Bay Dental Centre, our skilled dentists monitor the development of your wisdom teeth using x-rays and provide recommendations for removing the teeth only when necessary.  Call our clinic today to learn more about our wisdom teeth extraction services.
Endodontics (Root Canal)
This branch of dentistry focuses on preventing and treating diseases of the dental pulp, which is located ‘inside’ of our teeth.  At Nanoose Bay Dental Centre we evaluate and diagnose issues that may be happening inside your tooth. Often, when a tooth becomes inflamed or infected from the inside, we prescribe root canal therapy, which means that we remove the nerve and other tissue of the pulp cavity and fill it with a material called gutta-percha. Afterwards, we restore the tooth with a filling or crown allowing your tooth will continue to function as normal.
Guards, Bite Appliances
Do you clench and grind your teeth while you sleep? Do you play high-contact sports? If so, you may need a night guard or mouth guard. A mouth guard is a protective device that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to your mouth and jaw joints. Sometimes, damage to your teeth can happen in an instant, such as when you’re playing a sport. However, if you grind your teeth at night, you will be causing gradual damage that is hard to detect until it is too late. Our team at Nanoose Bay Dental Centre can fit you with a special mouth guard or night guard depending on your needs. Give us a call today if your suspect that you may need a mouth guard.
TMD
Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders commonly called ‘TMJ’, are a group of conditions that cause pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and muscles that control jaw movement. Symptoms can include pain or tenderness around the ear, the jaw joint or the muscles of the jaw. You may have trouble opening or closing your mouth and hear ‘popping’ or ‘clicking’ noises when you chew. If you suspect that you have these issues, our team will complete a thorough examination and create a treatment plan for you. This treatment plan could include relaxation techniques, referrals to other specialists or an occlusal splint (night guard). Give us a call today so we can assess your needs and create a treatment plan that works for you.
Whitening
Try Zoom Whitening for a brighter, more beautiful smile. Quickly and effectively reduce tooth discolouration caused by coffee, tea, cola and red wine; smoking or age. Zoom bleaching procedure is an effective way to lighten enamel and dentin. The in-office procedure uses a specialized chair-side lamp, which accelerates and activates the 25 percent hydrogen peroxide whitening, allowing oxygen to enter the enamel and dentin and safely bleach the stained surfaces, without altering tooth composition. We can also provide pre-made trays to take and do bleaching at home. Call to learn more.
